A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

The year 3960 BBY saw the end of the devastating Mandalorian Wars between the Galactic Republic and the Mandalorian warrior culture. The war culminated in the Battle of Malachor V, where Jedi Knight Revan defeated Mandalore the Ultimate in single combat and the activation of the Mass Shadow Generator destroyed most of the Mandalorian forces. After the battle, and the end of the Mandalorian Wars, the Jedi Revan and Malak mysteriously disappeared into the Unknown Regions, supposedly pursuing the last remnants of the Mandalorian fleet. In truth, Revan had discovered from the dying Mandalore that the Mandalorians had been influenced by the Sith. Unknown to the Jedi Order or the High Council, the two Jedi had traced clues to the planet Dromund Kaas where they discovered that the Sith Empire lived on in secret and was ruled by the mysterious and incredibly powerful Sith Emperor. Unable to stop him, the Emperor reprogrammed the Jedi and sent them back to the Republic as the Sith Lords Darth Revan and Darth Malak. Returning to the Republic with their loyal followers in tow, the newly christened Sith Lords began to wage a second war, preying on a Republic already weakened by the Mandalorians and taking full advantage of the immense number of Jedi who were still willing to follow the pair.

During the early stages of the conflict, the Republic world of Saleucami fell to the Sith known as Darth __. A dim, arid world in the Suolriep sector and known as an economic powerhouse and major trading center in the Outer Rim, Saleucami was politically powerful and strategically important to Republic and Jedi forces during the invasion of the Sith Empire. Its fall was considered to be impossible, but such was the strength of the Sith forces that the planet was conquered in mere hours. The scale of the onslaught against the planet shocked the Jedi, even knowing the significance of the world, but it could not go unchallenged. A massive counter offensive was launched in order to retake the world, with several high-ranking Jedi and their Padawans dispatched to lead the Grand Army of the republic in their efforts. Faced with immense opposition, and an enemy determined to hold on to their newly won territory, the planet became a hotly contested war zone, with strongholds established across the planet, battle lines drawn and skirmishes occurring on a daily basis.

As forces on both sides hunker down and prepare for a long, drawn out conflict, one question remains…

…why are the Sith so determined to maintain their grip on the planet?
